Frequently asked and useful questions to determine if you are eligible to become a tenant with Colette before embarking on the adventure.

What is the required age to be a tenant with Colette?

As part of intergenerational cohabitations, Colette assists young people between 18 and 30 years old in finding accommodation with hosts.

What types of accommodations are available?

We mainly offer rooms in shared homes. This is the core concept of the intergenerational cohabitation contract.

Some offer a setting that resembles a 'homey' atmosphere, while others provide more private and independent space. Some rooms have a private bathroom, a dressing room, or an independent entrance in the accommodation.

You can also find studio-type accommodations in shared homes. This could be an entire floor in a house, either on the ground floor, top floor, or in a separate building on the host's property.

Lastly, we have some completely independent studios. Some hosts live in an apartment a few floors above or below or at a different address. This type of accommodation is entirely independent, and you will have very little interaction with your host as they do not live on-site.

I have a specific budget, do I have a chance to find something with Colette?

To access the platform, we advise you to indicate a budget higher than yours to have access to as many offers as possible.

I need the details of the price, commissions. What am I getting into?

For accommodation in Paris and the Ile-de-France region, accommodation providers pay a 15% commission on the price of their adverts. You can see the price, including commission.

For example:

A room at 500€ means that the host will receive a net rent of 425€ gross.

As a tenant, you have a monthly subscription of €38 for the duration of your stay, once you have found your accommodation.

On this 500€ advert, this comes to 538€ with your tenant's commission.

For accommodation in other French cities, once you have found your room, you only have to pay a fee of 50% of the price of your room for the first month. You pay only your rent, with no subscription or commission, in subsequent months.

For example :

To make a reservation, all you have to do is pay the amount corresponding to the price of the room displayed + 50% of this price as a set-up fee, for the first month only. In subsequent months, you will only pay the room price.

If you book a 450€ room, the first amount to be paid to validate the booking will be 675€, then 450€ for the following months.

I am looking for accommodation for more than 2 people, as a couple, or with a family member, what should I do?

Each Colette reservation is valid for one room and one student at a time.

We do not offer housing for couples.

If you are looking for a shared living situation among young people, then unfortunately Colette may not meet your expectations!

If you are looking with a friend, sibling, you can inquire with hosts who rent multiple rooms under the same roof. Many appreciate having young people who know each other. It is possible to find something!

You can also specify this on your profile, it will maximize your chances of finding something!

I have a pet, and there is no question of parting with it! Is this compatible?

Students are asked not to bring their pets to the hosts' homes. Indeed, we cannot guarantee the behavior of your pet at the host's place. Additionally, many hosts already have pets of their own!

Nothing prevents you from asking your host during your exchanges or during the visit before making any reservation.

Measures will be taken if you move in with your pet without notifying the host and without their consent.

I don't have much time on a daily basis, my schedule is quite intense between my classes and activities. Is this compatible?

No worries, you are accommodated by your host for rent and not for services. Therefore, you will not be required to be available in a particular way for your host.

However, it is about intergenerational cohabitation. This means that you undertake to adhere to Colette's values and respect your host and their habits.

You may need independence, just find the right accommodation with the right person and be careful not to make demands on someone who is looking for daily presence and regular exchanges. This could create frustrations on both sides!

We advise you to take the time to exchange with the hosts and meet them before making a reservation. This is the best way to find out if your expectations are aligned!

I might change my path during the year/ I am waiting for results, I am not sure I can go through with the cohabitation. How does that work?

If you are likely to change your plans along the way, it will be possible to terminate the contract before the scheduled end date.

It is important to inform your host as soon as it is certain to allow them to organize on their side as well.

👉 Contact the Colette team at cohabitants@colette.club to trigger your notice, copying your host.

Important: the notice period is one month. It is best to do this in advance if possible!
